2013 is here! Is Your Game Plan Working?

Dreaming of a big 2013? Me too!

Sometimes dreaming is just not enough!

Do you have a game plan to get you where you are? You have to go after your goals with some structure-- there's no such thing as luck.

Write your goals down for the year and put them somewhere you'll see them regularly (your dresser, your fridge, inside a bathroom vanity cabinet). Put them as screen savers on your computer or as the background on your smart phone.

Nobody is a bigger motivator for your fire than yourself. The power of our own words can be more influential than any quote or photograph found on Tumblr.

If you're planning on losing weight or getting into shape, you need to treat it like a second full time job. Get your meals cooked the night before, get to the gym with a workout specifically lined up before you arrive, and plan out your cheats ahead of time. Treat your fitness goals as if your boss is constantly loitering over your shoulder and monitoring what you do. Don't cut corners. Don't make justifications.

When you want something bad enough, you'll get it. Don't believe me? Ever had a craving for junk food and gone out of your way to go to the store or drive-thru to get it? The same goes for fitness. The difference here is one has a short-term payoff and the other takes more time ( but it's SO worth it!)

Don't be controlled by the scale. If you do weigh yourself, ONLY do it first thing in the morning after you go to the bathroom. That's your true weight!

Other ways you can tell if your program is working for you in terms of increasing your metabolism:
  • You're going to the bathroom more often.
  • You're finding yourself getting hungry in the middle of the night.
  • Increased earwax production (gross but true!)
  • Clothes are fitting looser.
  • Your face is thinning out (generally it shows up in your face before anywhere else!)
Mix up your training program. Keep your body guessing. Don't be afraid of being sore.

If you can't handle training and changing your diet at the same time, choose one or the other to focus on for a month and then add in the missing piece later. Don't overwhelm yourself!

This is supposed to be empowering and fun!

Write your goals down and get serious. It's never too late!
